A Message from Todd Saunders
Todd started The Saunders Company in January of 1993. Having worked in the industry before, during and after college, Todd felt the time was right and TSC was created. As with most start-up companies, TSC began small and slowly attracted the type of people Todd envisioned would help build the reputation he sought to achieve; be good, be fast and be responsive.
By 1997, TSC reached 5 million in revenue and by 2001, annual revenues exceeded 10 million dollars. Performing a blend of private, residential, public and commercial projects, TSC also ventured into the rock-crushing business in Dundee.
In 2004, TSC saw the need to add “in-house” engineering & surveying to provide a Design-Build option to its clients. Until the recession, this business model proved to be a welcome addition to TSC and its developers.
From 1993 through 2010, TSC enjoyed growth and diversity that truly differentiated itself from the competition. A vast knowledge of civil construction, mining, engineering and survey allowed TSC to understand our clients’ projects at every level. Whether it is helping our clients make prudent acquisition decisions of raw land, reviewing design or building the project, we give our clients a peace of mind that rarely comes with civil construction.
Of course, the “Great Recession” was tough on everybody in our industry. TSC was not immune from its wrath. Dramatic downsizing, the sale of our rock-crushing operation and the closure of our Design-Build division, were casualties of the economic down turn. But we survived.
At the lowest point in the recession, TSC’s revenues fell to just under 1 million.
New goals were set and a plan was put in place. By the end of 2016, TSC had its largest construction revenue in company history. In 2017, we beat 2016 by 30%.
Part of the plan was to hire the best leadership in the industry. Done.
Make the investment in GPS controlled machinery. Done.
Commit to training our people to grow from good to great. Ongoing.
Create a culture that promotes pride, safety and efficiency. Almost there.
Stand behind our work and fix any errors. Always have, always will.
Most importantly, Todd loves this business. He believes profits are the by-product of a job well done. He thrives on promoting teamwork and strong relations with everyone around him.
